Details for "Career Transitions SIG: “BizProv – Using Improv skills in Your Transition (and Everywhere!)”"

Career Transitions Group (CT-SIG)
The Career Transitions Group (CT-SIG) provides ASTD members and guests who are in career transitions with a forum for discussion.  The Mission of the CT-SIG is:
To provide tools for people in transition that empower them in the face of uncertainty; to guide people in finding their passions in life; to accelerate the process of developing a meaningful career path.
Meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of every month at 3:30 pm.  (Note new time and place)

Warning: This is NOT your typical communications workshop!

Applying Improv to business situations is being highly touted as a great leadership skill and has the tag of ‘thinking on your feet’. Marshall Goldsmith, author, leading management consultant and executive coach, recently said on the Harvard Business Blog:

The acting technique that I found has the most potential for leadership development is improvisational theater. The power of improv comes from the instant feedback that the games provide. You can quickly see what habits you need to break, have the opportunity to practice new skills while receiving continuous reinforcement, and have fun at the same time.”

Come and experience the 5 Rules of Improv and see how applying these to your career transition and job search may result in the following:

¬ Give you new tools to manage stress by showing you to use humor to alter the way you look at and respond to stimuli which normally causes stress

¬ Create more comfortable environments and loosen inhibitions, raise positive awareness, and build confidence and trust among team members

¬ Provide better ways to communicate and listen more effectively in daily situations

¬ Break bad habits which hamper successful communication

¬ Connect to others without judgment and create a fun environment

¬ Think quicker on your feet and become more comfortable dealing with the inevitable unknowns in the business world

¬ Truly understand the importance of physical presence and body language

¬ Flourish and contribute in team environments by thinking “outside of the box”
