TOPIC: How to Make Better Decisions
In the spirit of good decision-making, we ask three basic questions:
1. Have you (or your staff) had any formal training in decision-making?
Or did you just learn as you went along?
2. Were the elders who guided you, trained in the art of making decisions?
Or did they also just learn through trial and error?
3. Is the new generation being trained in one of the most important life-skills?
Or are we just perpetuating the same inadequate practice of “learn as you go along”?
At the end of the day, all decisions are an expression of feelings. Most people rely on common-sense and gut-feel to guide us. People interpret even the data they receive, based on “feelings”. We firmly support this view of relying on common-sense and gut-feel. What we offer is method to add structure and consistency to what people already do.
Please bring your own lunch to this event; there are no food purveyors at the building
Dr. Wirasinghe started life as a trainee mechanic in an Engineering workshop, and went on to graduate as Valedictorian from Teesside University, U.K. specializing in Mechanical Engineering. Subsequently he obtained his Ph.D. in Fluid Mechanics, having won a scholarship from the prestigious “Confederation of British Industries” (CBI).
As an Oil & Gas industry specialist and a University Professor, he has published papers on topics relating to Management, Engineering and Economics. He has carved out a niche as a “decision-maker” and a “creative-thinker”, to shatter the myth and math of decision-making.
Initially, this technique was used for deciding where to drill for oil, based on seismic studies from different locations. In 1990, Dr. Wirasinghe adopted it for general applications. Today, his process is used in disciplines as diverse as Budgeting, Career Planning, Safety, Purchasing, Bid Evaluation, Recruiting, Performance Evaluations, Customer Rankings, etc.
Fluent in English, Spanish and Sinhalese, he has lived, worked and trained professionals in Asia, Mid-East, Europe, North America and South America. He has a thorough understanding of the impact of cultures and values, on decision-making.
Several of his consulting projects have included negotiations on behalf of international clients. He is an entertaining speaker with a global outlook and a passion for the subject, and brings a wealth of real-life experience and has helped many organizations add value to their human assets.
