Trainer Certificate Program 

 

University of Houston Trainer Certificate Program

  • Obtain critical skills and knowledge based on adult learning principles and instructional systems design
  • Practical instruction with immediate practice and application from recognized field practitioner faculty
  • Develop a training project to showcase your abilities as an instructional designer
  • Obtain a Trainer Certificate from the University of Houston
  • 5.6 CEU credits

Cost:

 

  • Early Bird (Before or on August 10th): $2500
  • Between August 10th - September 3rd: $2750
  • Late Registration: September 3rd-10th, or walk-ins: $3000
  • Costs includes 4 modules, electronic files in a flash drive, 5.6 CEUs
  • Each module can be taken separately: $750 (2 full-day sessions, electronic version of student manual, 1.4 CEUs)

Program Content

Foundations of Workplace Learning

  • Learning in the Workplace
  • Systems Approach to Instructional Design
  • Analyzing the Need for Training

Module I builds the foundation for subsequent sessions in the program. Participants learn the fundamentals of adult learning, acquire the skills to perform a needs assessment, and analyze characteristics of learners and their jobs. This interactive session develops a foundation for improving performance and aligning training with the organizational goals.

Designing and Developing Effective Training

  • Designing for Adult Instruction
  • Putting Performance in Objectives
  • Developing Training Materials

In Module II, participants acquire the skills needed to design and develop effective face- to-face, online, or on-the job training in an organization. Strategies and models for instruction are introduced and concepts from Session I are reinforced to give participants a practical learning experience.

Evaluating Training

  • Developing an evaluation plan based on company's needs
  • Develop evaluation instruments based on Kirkpatrick's Levels 1 - 3. Reaction, Learning and Workplace Application

Knowing how to evaluate training at all levels in the organization is a critical skill for trainers. In this session participants acquire in-depth skills for level one to level three evaluations, including guidelines, forms, procedures and techniques for measuring all three levels in the evaluation process

Delivering a Positive Learning Experience

  • Planning the Instructional Process
  • Motivating and Managing the Audience
  • Platform and Delivery Skills
  • Facing Classroom Challenges

Creating a positive learning experience is an art and a skill for new trainers. In this session, participants learn solid techniques to optimize and accelerate learning. Session IV explores the nuts and bolts of active learning through the use of games, icebreakers, experiential tools, questioning and feedback skills. Participants learn how to make the most of PowerPoint and other forms of presentation tools.
